however bad a Filipino government might be, we can always change it

from http://nimbosa.multiply.com/journal/item/7

Indifference is a mistake

With every election cycle that we go through, the feeling inevitably grows that it doesn’t matter anyway who will be elected, nothing will change and it will be “boom tarat tarat” as usual. The politicos will continue to wallow in billions in pork barrel and discretionary funds, continue to bless their favored groups with overpriced contracts, and continue to saddle us the people with too high a tax burden and too much regulatory nonsense. It is not surprising therefore why my generation generally expresses indifferent attitudes about the upcoming elections.

Remarkably, however, I find many young people expressing this same ‘I couldn’t care less’ sentiment and it is hard to understand why. Youth, after all, is a time when one is supposed to be full of confidence that anything is possible and one’s dreams are imbued with idealism and hope. That those who are voting possibly for only the second or third time in their lives feel indifference could of course only be testimony to the fact that this campaign has been supremely dull. It might also disturbingly indicate, however, that the young have, this early, already begun to feel that elections in particular and politics in general have no relevance to their personal lives and no connection whatsoever to their aspirations.

our first democratically elected president said that if he he could have his way, he prefers

"..a country run like hell by Filipinos to a country run like heaven by Americans. Because, however bad a Filipino government might be, we can always change it."

and i say, WE MUST CHANGE IT
now,
more than ever before, we must lay the foundations of an open society

IN THESE LATTER DAYS, it would be safe to say that it is Better to have my country torn by strife and revolt against its unjust oppressors than to have "prosperity" and "peace" with Tyranny and Corruption.

You cannot make peace with Evil, in the same way we cannot make war against the Good. But it has been the policy of this government to make war against all virtuous and principled men and womenby spreading lies, by subterfuge and manipulation, by threats of violence and even intimidation at the courts of law, and by these means they put up a facade of morality and righteousness. But who are they fooling with this veneer of rectitude?

For this coming election, it has been the slogan OF the Administration "Unity for Progress" to cajole the citizens into voting their candidates. I say we Unite with the Good and Proclaim the Truth, make war with Corruption and Tyranny and expose every Lie. There can be no real Progress while Corruption reigns supreme. There can be no basis for Unity until the People has come to know all that is Good and True.

one Evil at a time, we must defeat ALL parasites infesting our social landscape today

From the lowest clerks to the highest office, we know Corruption is what leads to Tyranny and Injustice in this land, and it is also the cause of worsening Poverty and the vicious cycle of Violence we witness today. On COMELEC's own record we have the highest number of election-related violence today since democracy was restored. This is sign of desperation for the Corrupt leaders willing to do everything they can to hold on to power. And we must fail them. The perpetrators of this lawless violence are not common criminals, masterminds of most of them are also in power, and have this high disregard of the law because they know the law is on their side. Nakasandal sila sa poder, este, sa pader, kay Gloria.

I say down with the Administration's ticket and vote for the best alternative instead. Not because averyone in the Administration's side is Evil, NO. Individual candidates endorsed by the Administration may have good intentions and a sincere heart, BUT all that comes to nothing when they succumb to the Administration's will and their voices are drowned by the thunders of Corrupt Despotism. As a favor to this few good men and women who find themselves under the banner of the Administration, we should save them from compromising their principles for the Administration's will. Let us vote for the people who can openly defy the machinations of those in power and unseat the illegitimate and corrupt ledership now controlling our vital institutions.

“Why I Want In The Black Box Beta”

Be The First In The Podium Project Beta Test (For Free)

http://www.paulcolligan.com/2007/04/25/be-the-first-in-the-podium-project-beta-test-for-free/

Posted on 1:56 pm by Paul Colligan

We are about to launch the first 50 Podium Boxes in our Podium Project beta test. It will be a chance to test the “end user” experience of delivering high value content this way.

I know the tech works, it is now time to figure out how the end user responds to content being delivered via a little black box - as well as explore the hiccups along the way. It will be a fascinating ride - and I promise to keep everyone up to date along the way.

Two ways to get on the beta program - one of them won’t cost you a dime:

49 beta testers will pay a deposit fee to get a box and a pmp and test the service for about 45 days. If they like what they have, they can keep the box and get some additional content and service. We will be delivering more than $1,000 worth of content during that time frame - so it will be well worth the price ;-) For more information send a blank email to blackboxbeta@paulcolligan.com

1 beta tester will get their box for free by posting a blog post entitled “Why I Want In The Black Box Beta” and providing a link back to this post. They’ll even get their box before the 49 listed above do. This is a fun way to build a little buzz and hand out a wildcard beta test as well. Should be fun. Might even give away 2.

Let the games begin.

above is a replication of a post

seemingly interesting enough for me

but right away, i see some possible problems

_________________________________

“Why I Want In The Black Box Beta”

is a title very problematic to me

It would have been better if it reads

“Why I Want the Black Box Beta”

or “What I Want In The Black Box Beta”

I don't know if it's MY problem or if it is a REAL problem.

But one BIG problem to be sure, is the fact that i do not know anything about this product/service/whatever.

So I begin to dig the web for this.

One thing I found was somewhat helpful:

The Podium product is a device that plugs into an Internet source via ethernet cable. It then registers with Casgle and delivers Podcasts through the device. It can connect to an iPod or other MP3 players that mount as a hard drive. It does not work on the Zune yet, they’re very interesting in talking to Microsoft about the opportunity.

OK, very interesting

Here's more:

Like the answering machine of old, the red light flashes when there is a Podcast waiting - and to put the content on your device, you simply dock your player. It charges and syncs. You don’t need to turn on a computer anywhere.

Heck, you don’t even have to have a computer. Yes, few people have a high speed Internet connection without a computer, but the founders of the company have had great success providing their Moms with Chinese media content they could not get any other way. Everything is set up through a Web interface.

A significant percentage of my audience will look at the product and laugh with a “I’d never use one” response.

To them I’d dare suggest this product isn’t for you.

To make things even simpler, i found very helpful graphics for dumb people:

Casgle patent-pending solution simplifies the management of the downloading of podcast content to portable media players. Casgle technology makes the realization of fully personalized media stations reality.

How it Works

Casgle's Content Management System

Base Station

OK, now i gathered enough substantial material regarding the elusive concept propounded by this illustrious product.

I can now start answering my formal reservations..

Still, I think it would have been better if it reads

“Why I Want the Black Box Beta”

or “What I Want In The Black Box Beta”

instead of the rather arcane and ambiguous question “Why I Want In The Black Box Beta”

For while it gives you the impression of someone wanting to get into the Black Box beta experience, it leaves the question open enough for other interpretations.

With these reservations laid bare, without further ado, I answer “Why I Want In The Black Box Beta”

This notorious Black Box , seems to me, has great potential as a Universal RSS Information Access Point

Though details are now fuzzy, I know, the great Vision of this product/service/whatever will be very clear to me once I experience its hopefully awesome power, and I will post a very interesting review of that experience

So, Paul Colligan whoever you are, if you find me interesting enough to give one of your Black Boxes for some nasty exploitation (errr.. Beta Test) just contact me as Seth Nimbosa in the Yahoo Universe and digg.com or as alias Darth.Serious on consumating and in Google's expanded and expanding universe, or do a search using either..

What is EXIF data?

Almost all new digital cameras save JPEG (jpg) files with EXIF (Exchangeable Image File) data. Camera settings and scene information are recorded by the camera into the image file. Examples of stored information are shutter speed, date and time, focal length, exposure compensation, metering pattern and if a flash was used.

Compression: JPEG
Image Width: 1600 pixels
Image Height: 1200 pixels

Return to the toast is a powerup page.

Interesting EXIF info (submitted by Bill Baron) from one of the original images:

* Camera Make = Apple
* Camera Model = iPhone
* Picture Orientation = rotated 90° (6)
* Lens F-Number/F-Stop = 14/5 = F2.80
* Color Space = sRGB (1)
* Image Width = 1600
* Image Height = 1200
* Unknown tag: Tagnum = 0xa500 ===> data = 11/5
* Compression = JPEG compression (6)

So, the Apple iPhone does appear to encode orientation information (landscape or portrait) into photos based on whether or not the phone is held vertically or horizontally.

Knowledge, Suffering and Improvement

Early in my life I got tired on knowledge…

In the process, I’ve discovered things of real value:

To accomplish things = to do things in your own way

To understand things = to appreciate things not done your way, to accept things beyond you

These two things do not preclude knowledge, but rather require it. They also make knowledge complete by laying bare its purpose.

In more classical terms, knowledge acquires value only if it has aided in the creation of things new and wonderful, or it brings you into communion with a larger whole you have not realized before.

In this way, I am an intellectual but not an intellectualist. I pursue knowledge not as an end unto itself. In the same way, I promote myself and my ideas not for my own glory. Everything I do, everything I know, from now on, serves a greater purpose…

For in the beginning there was void. And then Love was born. It did not compel, it did not demand anything of itself, it was pouring out. From it, everything came into being, before becoming anything. Love was born in Eternity, before Time began, and Love (if it is true) yearns unto that Eternity return.

SUFFERING

“As I say, it’s the human condition. Ever since we were expelled from paradise, we have either been suffering, making other people suffer or watching the suffering of others.

It’s beyond our control.”

Knowledge is only valuable if it has aided in the creation of things new and wonderful,

or it brings you into communion with a larger whole you have not realized before.

In the same way, you are valuable only if you have aided in the creation of a new possibility, new choices; or when you have realized your purpose in a larger reality.

Everything is of value only when it has graduated to a higher sense of meaning and participation.

The XML Files: XML Data Migration Case Study: GEDCOM

Download the code for this article: XMLFiles0405.exe (143KB)

XML's ubiquity and continually improving tool support has created a magnetism that attracts organizations everywhere. As organizations move to XML, they must also provide a coherent data migration strategy that allows their users to bring old files forward. This is a nontrivial problem that typically requires tedious code to implement the transformation process. The System.Xml namespace in the Microsoft® .NET Framework, however, can greatly simplify these data migration challenges through its extensible APIs and support for XSLT.

An example of data migration is what's currently happening around genealogy data formats. Genealogists have long relied on the Genealogical Data Communications (GEDCOM) 5.5 format for sharing genealogical information. GEDCOM 5.5 is text based but not XML based. A beta version of GEDCOM 6.0 is available and is completely based on XML. But what about the gigabytes of genealogical information that can still be found in GEDCOM 5.5 format? This presents an interesting data migration challenge that really should not be ignored.

In this column I'll walk you through solving this data migration problem using System.Xml. This process can serve as a blueprint for other data migration problems you may face.

GEDCOM 101

GEDCOM was developed to facilitate exchanging genealogical data across different genealogy programs and systems. A common format like GEDCOM allows users to share their work with others regardless of the program they're using.

Version 5.5 is the most widely used version of the various GEDCOM specifications (see The GEDCOM Standard Release 5.5). GEDCOM 5.5 relies on a simple text-based grammar that leverages line delimiters and level numbers to structure family tree information. Figure 1 provides a sample GEDCOM 5.5 file.

Each GEDCOM line contains a level number, a tag, and an optional value. Multiple lines constitute a GEDCOM record. A level of 0 marks the beginning of a new GEDCOM record. Every line that follows is part of the record until you reach another line with a level of 0. The tag name conveys meaning about the information on the line as defined in the specification.

In the example shown in Figure 1, HEAD is the first record and it contains six children (SOUR, DATE, GEDC, CHAR, SUBM, SUBN). SOUR contains two children (VERS and NAME) while DATE contains one child (TIME). The increasing level numbers indicate parent-to-child relationships. A line may also contain a unique identifier, as shown in the following snippet:

0 @SUB01@ SUBM
1 NAME Aaron Skonnard
1 ADDR 456 Main

XSLT for GEDCOM 6.0

The latest GEDCOM specification, version 6.0, defines a full-fledged XML format for GEDCOM information. The specification even provides a Document Type Definition (DTD) that defines the elements and attributes that make up the complete GEDCOM 6.0 vocabulary.

The GEDCOM 6.0 format is much different from the one my GedcomReader simulates. In order to migrate to GEDCOM 6.0, you have to either modify the GedcomReader implementation in order to simulate the new format or write an XSLT that performs the transformation in a subsequent step.

The GEDCOM 6.0 format is much more complex than the simple mapping I simulated in GedcomReader. Consequently, trying to simulate GEDCOM 6.0 in the GedcomReader code would be extremely difficult and error prone. Using an XSLT transformation to accomplish this step is a more tractable problem.

In Figure 7 I've provided an XSLT in the sample project that illustrates how to generate a GEDCOM 6.0 file from the intermediate XML format shown in Figure 3. The XSLT covers the most common GEDCOM 6.0 use cases, and it produces files that pass validation against the GEDCOM 6.0 DTD.

You can use this XSLT by taking advantage of the System.Xml.Xsl.XslTransform class, as shown here:

GedcomReader gr = new GedcomReader(gedcomFileName); XmlDocument doc = new XmlDocument(); doc.Load(gr); gr.Close(); // done using GedcomReader XslTransform tx = new XslTransform(); tx.Load("gedcom6.xsl"); FileStream fs = new FileStream("skonnord6.xml", FileMode.Create); tx.Transform(doc, null, fs, null);

The output file, skonnord6.xml, will now be GEDCOM 6.0-compliant. At this point it's also possible to write other XSLT transformations that change the intermediate XML format into another format of your choosing. For example, you could write an XSLT transformation that produces human-readable HTML pages for viewing and navigating the GEDCOM family tree information.

As you can see, it didn't take much code to implement a complete GEDCOM migration path. The ability to programmatically move between GEDCOM 5.5 and GEDCOM 6.0 greatly simplifies the migration scenarios that are involved in building a complete genealogy system around the new GEDCOM 6.0 data model.

Back to top

Where Are We?

I've walked through a real-world data migration scenario using the System.Xml classes in .NET. I started with the GEDCOM 5.5 format and moved to an intermediate XML format that can be processed in a variety of ways. This is made possible by a custom XmlReader implementation called GedcomReader.

The intermediate XML format can also be transformed into a variety of other formats. I was able to migrate to GEDCOM 6.0 by using an XSLT transformation (see Figure 8).

Figure 8 Migrating to GEDCOM 6.0
Figure 8 Migrating to GEDCOM 6.0

The extensibility points provided by System.Xml facilitate dealing with a variety of data migration scenarios like this one. If you have old data formats lying around that would benefit from migrating to XML, follow the approach discussed in this column to implement your own migration path.

In this example, the SUBM record has a unique identifier of SUB01. This ID must be unique within the scope of the document. Identifiers make it possible to establish links between records. For example, the HEAD record referenced this SUBM record on the following line of code:
1 SUBM @SUB01@

These are the basics of the GEDCOM 5.5 grammar. GEDCOM 5.5 is capable of representing sophisticated tree structures through its use of level numbers, identifiers, and cross-referencing capabilities. I don't have enough space in this column to cover GEDCOM semantics in more detail. Suffice it to say that GEDCOM 5.5 makes it possible to express a wide range of genealogy-related information.

Since GEDCOM was primarily designed to represent tree structures (family trees) in an interoperable manner, moving GEDCOM to an XML format seems like a perfect fit.

Back to top

Mapping GEDCOM to XML

The GEDCOM 5.5 grammar maps nicely to XML. One way to define a simple XML mapping is to convert each GEDCOM line into an XML element with the same name. The line's optional data, if any, can be placed in an attribute named "value". Identifiers can be placed in an attribute named "id" and references to other records can be placed in an attribute named "idref". Figure 2 may help you visualize the mapping. Applying this simple mapping to the GEDCOM 5.5 file shown in Figure 1 produces the XML document shown in Figure 3.

Figure 2 Mapping GEDCOM 5.5 to GEDCOM XML
Figure 2 Mapping GEDCOM 5.5 to GEDCOM XML

The XML version conveys the same information, but now it can be processed by a much wider range of tools and technologies. For example, you could process the XML file with your favorite XML API (such as DOM, SAX, XmlTextReader, or XPathNavigator), a query language like XPath or XQuery, or a transformation language like XSLT. Ultimately, once you have GEDCOM data in XML format, you can do just about anything with it.

 Death

Dreams about death are not necessarily bad omens, but they usually represent anxious or angry feelings. To dream of your own death is actually positive - it means renewal and letting go of an old stage of life. This is also a common dream when you are getting over an illness - and it's a good sign that you are getting better. However, if you dream that you are dying slowly, you need to drastically change your routine and reenergize your life. To dream about the death of a loved one, suggests that you are lacking a certain quality that the loved one represents. Ask yourself what makes this person special or what do you like about him. It is that very quality that you are lacking in your own relationship or circumstances. To dream of a death frequently signifies news of a birth. To be aware of a dead person you cannot identify foretells an inheritance which may not be personal, but could be indirectly beneficial to you.

so, i realized it was the positive values my father represents that saddened me, not his physical death,

but the loss of the values in life that for me he represents,  Loyalty, Perseverance, Hardwork,

and i also realized that things we don't deal with in  "real life"  always turn up somewhere, in weird circumstances, coincidences, and in dreams

Numerology

Another one of those stupid things we really enjoy doing:

How is Numerology Portrait calculated?

The ancient science of numerology offers insight into the personality by assigning numeric values to names and birth dates, calculating numerological values and then interpreting the results.

To calculate the values used in numerology, all digits of a number are first added together. If the outcome is a number with more than one digit, the resulting digits are added together again until they are reduced to a single digit. For example, the number 27 is reduced by adding 2 + 7 to get 9. The number 1974 is reduced by adding 1 + 9 + 7 + 4 to get 21; then 21 is further reduced by adding 2 + 1 to get 3. All numbers are reduced to single digits between 1 and 9 except the special master number 11, which is not reduced in numerological calculations.

Letters are first converted into numbers, which are then added together until they become a single digit. The letter A = 1, B = 2, C = 3, etc.; M = 13, which becomes 1 + 3 = 4. For example, the name Amy is equal to 1 + 4 + 7 = 12. 12 is then further reduced by adding 1 + 2 to get 3.

Your Numerology Portrait applies the results of several calculations to provide insight into the most important aspects of your personality. If you have a Y in your name, please consult the table for further information on how we treat that letter's dual nature as consonant and vowel.

Your soul number reveals your inner, private self, the underlying motivations that influence your decisions and actions, your subconscious desires and your most deeply ingrained attitudes. (It is determined by adding the values for the vowels in your full birth name.)

Your Numerology Portrait is based on the following calculations:

Is Y considered a consonant or a vowel?

- If your first name begins with Y, then Y will appear in the "first vowel" section of your portrait. All other sections of your portrait will treat that Y as a consonant.

- If a Y appears in any other position in your first, middle or last name, it will be considered a consonant if preceded by a vowel and vice versa.

Total for each letter:

  1      2       3      4      5     6      7      8     9
A=3 B=0  C=2  D=1  E=5  F=0  G=1  H=0  I=1
J=1  K=0  L=2  M=1  N=1  O=1  P=0  Q=0  R=3
S=0  T=0  U=0  V=0  W=1 X=0  Y=1  Z=1

Consonant Total: 1  (73)
Vowel Total: 5  (50)
Grand Total: 6  (123)
Date Total: 1  (37)
Missing Number(s) are: 2
First letter is L
First vowel is A

Your Soul Number is FIVE.

A deep inner restlessness and discontent with the status quo makes you seek out adventure, excitement, and the unconventional. You thrive on new ideas, change, travel, experimenting with new ways of doing things. Predictability and routine make you feel lifeless and unhappy so you must find a lifestyle that is varied enough to be mentally stimulating and challenging. Independent, freedom-loving, and easily bored, you have trouble making commitments and finishing projects. You often "move on" prematurely, whether in a personal relationship or in your work. You need to develop discipline and perseverance when you have an important goal.

You have many talents and need many outlets and avenues for their expression, but try to finish one thing before attempting the next.

anything beautiful and your home is sure to reflect this, no matter
what your budget is.  You are proud of all your possessions and
especially of the talents of your family members. Your generous, creative
nature makes you the ideal host or guest at a party.

Soul Urge:
5

The Soul Urge number has also been called Heart's Desire and
Spiritual Urge. It is our secret, innermost longing. Our dream, our
motivation, the fuel that energizes our journey. The Soul Urge number
reveals what we secretly strive to be or accomplish. Some have said
that this number tells us what we have been in previous lifetimes, the
accumulated growth of our soul.

Variety is what drives you.  For this reason travel, the arts,
education and self expression are areas where you are likely to be
found.  Freedom to choose, to move about without limitation, to absorb
information and to observe life are imperative to your inner health
and happiness.  You crave stimulation and may be drawn to
exhilarating adventures and death-defying sports.  Your sensual nature
will lead the way.

Persona:
1

The Persona number describes the way we appear to the outside world,
the first impression people have of us. We may not even be aware of
how we are perceived by others because we are so often focused on our
inner world, and many times the inner does not match the
outer. Persona gives us a peek at some hidden talents we have. The
talents that we use to get along in the world and in some instances,
protect us from it. It is likened to a bag of tools (jewels) that we
carry with us along the way.

Others see you as a unique individual who always does their "own
thing".  Independent, capable and pioneering, you seem to take
control of the situation and make it run effectively.  You are very
concerned with your image and always seem to dress in a way that gets
noticed.

     From an esoteric point of view your birth chart is a portrait of your soul's intention for this lifetime, the lessons to be learned, qualities to develop, problems to be resolved, service to be rendered.  From that perspective, the choices one makes in one's daily life have reverberations that may last beyond even this lifetime.

     This reading is written to help you clarify your lessons and goals, illuminate your struggles, and encourage you to move in the direction of your true purposes.

     The best to you on your journey...

Chapter 1: The Moon

     The placement of the Moon in your birth chart is very significant from a karmic perspective, as it indicates the accumulated karmic tendencies, both positive and negative, that you carry from your past incarnated experiences on earth.

     While the Sun reveals your intended purposes and lessons for this present life cycle, the MOON represents what you have already done and developed, hence, nimbosa, what is instinctive and natural to you, and what you tend to do over and over again. Your childhood is also reflected in the Moon's placement, as it is through those childhood circumstances that any unresolved past-life issues are re-stimulated.  Your subconscious predisposition is indicated by the Moon's position.  It is the psychic imprint of the past.  The nodes of the Moon describe behavior patterns from the past, as well as delineating a direction out of outworn or overdone behaviors and habits.

Moon in Taurus:

     You instinctively react to stress with patience and forbearance, and can withstand a great deal of buffeting or pressure without losing your emotional stability.  Slow to respond to provocation, nimbosa, you are not easily knocked off-center and you maintain your inner poise even under trying circumstances.

     Your incarnational past has been one of being deeply rooted in family and tradition, close to nature and the land, amidst relatively stable and peaceful conditions.  Working on, or owning land, and living in accordance with nature's rhythms and cycles, gave you a deep sense of security which carries through to your present life in a number of ways.  First is your preference for natural surroundings and your gift for growing things.  You find comfort in your garden or even a drive through the countryside. Growing and working with plants and herbs can also be soothing to you for the same reason you have done so before and it is very familiar to you.  Cooking and eating the food you have prepared seems to nourish you on levels besides the physical one, also relying on food to satisfy emotional needs or to promote a sense of security can obviously be a mixed blessing.  However, all of these basic, natural, earthy activities, (gardening, farming, cooking, eating) are types of experiences you now instinctively seek out when feeling threatened in any way.  You also possess a deeply ingrained down-to-earth common sense and basic practical skills to fall back on which gives you a good foundation for taking care of yourself.

     Another attribute you have developed in the past is your ability to stay with something and to wait long and patiently for an outcome.  You intuitively understand the need for a gestation time, a period of inner preparation, waiting, and seeming inactivity before the fruits or the outward blossoming can happen.  You have a kind of emotional stamina that enables you to "keep on keeping on", especially in regard to personal situations and relations. However, nimbosa, in many instances your apparent loyalty is little more than a slavish adherence to habit, and a tremendous disinclination to disrupt the status quo. When faced with the need to change, your initial response is to STAY PUT. Getting stuck in a rut is a great temptation for you. Having had little experience in moving around or adapting to changing circumstances, you now tend to retreat into the known and to stubbornly cling to the familiar rather than greeting upcoming changes with a sense of adventure or curiosity.  Even a move that is positive, and very much desired by you consciously is apt to be met with some strong inner, unconscious resistance, and a great need for reassurance.  Latching on to your children, long-time friends, or family members, becoming very territorial and possessive of your belongings, being constantly and excessively concerned with money and financial security (even when you are not in lack), or as mentioned above, indulging in food for comfort, are all indications that some part of you feels that you are moving away from tradition (and thus safety) too quickly.  You need to learn how to nourish yourself and to feel secure without trying to control everything and everybody.  While you would prefer sameness, nimbosa, you need to accept a certain amount of "chaos".  Not every variable can be accounted for and not all of the unpredictability, mystery, and risk in life can be eliminated!

     You may find yourself attracting people into your life who are drawn to your emotional steadiness and your earthy groundedness.  You can be relied upon and others sense this.  One gift you have to share with others is your well-developed knack for handling financial matters, and the material side of life in general.

Moon Quincunx Venus:

     You have a great capacity for and one might even say craving for tenderness, devoted love, family belonging, and the sweetness of shared domesticity.  Your marriage and your children may well be the focus in your life, nimbosa, but this arena is not apt to be completely harmonious.  You have conflicting urges when it comes to satisfying your erotic love feelings.  What you want and what gives you pleasure in love may be at odds with what makes you comfortable or secure.  Your ability to give and receive love freely may be inhibited by messages you received or experiences you had in childhood, or you may feel conflicting loyalties between your parents and family of origin versus your mate or lover.  Or, perhaps, your identification with your role as a parent interferes with your lover-relationship with your spouse.  Along with this is a tendency to become overly "close" and dependent on family.  On another level, you are apt to have a lazy, pleasure-loving side that enjoys being pampered and is disinclined to real effort and self-discipline.

     A habit of doing things the easy way, and a certain passive desire to be taken care of, may develop.  Also, nimbosa, quite possible is an addiction to sweets, and thus an ongoing weight problem.

North Node in Taurus:

     In your incarnational past, you tended toward intensity, passionate extremes, and radical solutions to your problems. Your growth direction now is to become more grounded in the physical world, nimbosa, and committed to a work or a lifestyle that enables you to be more stable, reliable, and trustworthy.

North Node in 1st house:

     When in close partnership with others, nimbosa,  you tend to fall back into the old patterns.  Your partner or partners in life may pull you back into that old way of being.

Chapter 2: The Sun

     The Sun in your birth chart represents the primary creative thrust for this lifetime, those qualities you are to develop (or further develop) and express, and your current life focus.  This may be in harmony with your instincts and your emotional habits, nimbosa, or along completely different lines.  The Sun represents your conscious identity in this lifetime.

Sun in Virgo:

     In this lifetime you are at a point in your soul development that requires you to do the work of refining and purifying your own nature.  Like the ancient alchemists whose goal was to take bare materials and turn them into gold.  Your own process of self-transformation involves taking what is crude or disordered in yourself and refining it.  It is a cycle of separating the wheat from the chaff, requiring acute discrimination, rigorous self-analysis and self-criticism.

     This impulse to perfect, to create order, and to focus on the flaws in order to improve and correct is the basis of much of your behavior.  When you project it out into the world, nimbosa, it manifests as extreme fastidiousness, meticulous attention to detail, the ability to do very fine and exacting work, precision of thought and expression, and sometimes a peculiar fussiness. You can be the critic, the razor-sharp analyst, the master craftsman with a reputation for the greatest finesse and polish. You quietly observe, dissect, and measure everything against your own inner standard of perfection. Everything must be tested and go through the refiner's fire in order to prove its efficacy, Rarely do you swallow anything whole.  Everything must be examined and judged, the acceptable parts ingested and the unacceptable rejected. This is true on many levels, including the physical.   You are apt to be extremely discriminating about your diet, concerned with proper nutrition and the avoidance of pollutants and impurities in your food or environment, and so on. Your physical body itself may be very sensitive to what you take in - more so than other people are.  On an intellectual level, you are similarly discriminating, perhaps to the point of frank skepticism.  Because of your underlying need to create order, nimbosa, you like to categorize and put things in neat little boxes, and you may deny, avoid, invalidate, or refuse to take seriously something that does not fit into your scheme.  Even in investigating the spiritual or mystical, you seek a system, an order.  Ambiguity, multiplicity, chaos, or disarray of any kind may vex you considerably.  You can also be very critical and demanding of other people, in a nagging, petty way.  This is if you are projecting your need to refine and perfect onto the outside world.  However, that is really a misuse of what is essentially an inner process, getting rid of the dross and refining your own character.

     Turned inward, this purification process is likely to manifest, first of all, as high personal standards of conduct and often much guilt and anxiety if you fail to do so.  You will need to develop some humor and compassion for yourself, and a more merciful, and tolerant attitude toward your own foibles and humanness and to offset your innate propensity toward strict justice and judgment.  Excessive self-doubt and self-criticism, an obsessive concern with self-improvement, extreme humility based on unrealistic perfectionism, fear of making mistakes or of being wrong, and an overly cautious attitude toward life can be common pitfalls on your path. You can overcome these patterns by finding an avenue of service to others to put your energies into, or a particular craft that you can continue to develop and perfect. The soul or character development that results from self-giving and self-discipline is an important part of what you are here to do.

     Part of this ongoing inner process of purification can be achieved through devoted service to others, nimbosa, and through doing a good job for its own sake, rather than for personal glory. Very often, you may be the invisible man or woman, in the supportive, assistant role, the power behind the throne, the worker bee rather than the queen.  You may be quite comfortable being anonymous, for it is the quality of your work that really concerns you.  You are happiest when you are being useful and productive, fulfilling a necessary function, being helpful in a tangible, concrete way.

Chapter 3: Rising Sign

The point that was on the eastern horizon at the moment of your birth is called the ASCENDANT, or rising sign.  While the Sun describes your conscious direction and current life focus, and the moon your subconscious predisposition and past, the Ascendant indicates a way of being that transcends and embraces past, present, and future.  It describes the way you engage and merge with the outer world and how you bring through into life the energies depicted by the sun, the moon, and the rest of your birth chart.  Everything is filtered through the ascendant from an esoteric point of view.  It indicates your soul's function and thus a key part of your destiny.

Taurus Rising:

     Your soul function is to patiently nurture into fruition your own and others' talents, ideas, gifts, and creative impulses, to bring them to earth and give them a "body" or a tangible form.  You are practical, a stabilizer, a grounding force, deliberate, methodical and steady.  You prefer to be thorough rather than fast.  When out of balance, nimbosa, you are immovable, and may feel heavy or stuck.  Ruled by Venus, you work through the principles of pleasure and attraction.  You do what you enjoy and want to enjoy what you do.  You like to please your senses, to take your sweet time, to appreciate what you have. You may struggle with issues of appetites and consumption, or a lazy side of your nature.  Unless other factors in your chart indicate otherwise, you do not go after what you want very aggressively. Rather, nimbosa, you attract what you need or wait for it to come to you at the right time, and this is a keep to fulfilling your destiny, as long as you do not degenerate into lazy inertia. An attunement to nature and the earth is part of your soul function also.

Taurus Rising and Venus in Libra:

     Your Venus is in the gracious and harmony-loving sign of Libra. Everything you do or are involved in must please your sense of aesthetics as well as conform to your ideals of cooperation, balance, harmony, and good form.  You also have a gift for diplomacy, nimbosa, which is part of your soul function.

Chapter 4: Saturn, Your Achilles Heel

     Karmically considered, the placement of Saturn in your birth chart indicates where your energetic blockages, weaknesses and fears lie, and the areas of your life where the most concentrated effort and discipline will be required to master and overcome them.  Yet it also points to the aspects of life which can become your greatest strength if you are willing to face your fears and difficulties honestly, nimbosa, and work with them patiently.

Saturn in Scorpio

     You tend to get tied up in knots when it comes to surrendering, relinquishing control and letting yourself be seen for who you truly are.  Problems in your sexual relationships or in any potentially deep, intimate relationship can grow out of this.  You may also have sexual secrets, or feelings and desires that are difficult for you to discuss or even acknowledge because they seem to you taboo.  You have a great fear of your emotional depths, your passion, your anger and other dark, "ugly" emotions that you imagine you have more than others do. However, nimbosa, these intense feelings are not unique to yourself, and learning to accept rather than avoid or suppress them is crucial for you. Otherwise, they are apt to erupt unexpectedly, or subtly poison your life.  Understanding your jealousy, professional, sexual or otherwise may be one of your greatest lessons.  If you are willing to journey deep within yourself and reclaim some of the most, denied aspects of your being, particularly your emotions, you will have great opportunities to transform yourself and to become a truly powerful individual.  Patterns of hiding, withholding yourself, isolating yourself, being compulsively secretive and mistrusting others' motives may also need to be worked with.  At your worst, nimbosa, you could become paranoid and destructive either to yourself or others.

Saturn in 6th house:

     For you, the interrelationship between work and health is a particularly crucial one, nimbosa, and it is the arena through which many of your karmic imbalances or unresolved issues are addressed. You may suffer ill-health through overwork, especially if you feel guilty when you are not working.  If you blame external circumstances and demands for the frustrations, and burdens your work entails, it may behoove you to examine just what you get (besides an income) from working so hard, or in such restrictive circumstances.  On the other hand, you may get sick in part as a legitimate way of avoiding work or other pressing personal dilemmas. You also tend to greatly fear ill-health and, in a sort of vicious circle, open yourself up to disease through your anxiety about it.

     Any congenital health problems or predispositions to certain inherited diseases or dysfunctions need to be dealt with patiently, compassionately and in-depth.  For you, nimbosa, problems in this area are an opportunity and a call to delve deeply into the hidden causes or deeper spiritual issues that arise as a result of a "physical" health challenge.  (This is not to say you will have such problems, simply that if they occur, they usually reflect karmic patterns).

Saturn SemiSquare Neptune:

     Your psychic antennae seem particularly sensitive to the pain of the world, and you are apt to take your spiritual and moral responsibility to respond to this very seriously.  However, nimbosa, you carry a pattern of absorbing and taking on the burdens and suffering in the world, and because of this you may struggle with pessimism and discouragement, and become overwhelmed from time to time.  Furthermore, your imagination tends to amplify these problems so that your view of reality can be rather sorrowful. It is important for you to learn to use your imaginative faculties constructively, and also to recognize that many of the nebulous worries you have are unfounded.

     Past incarnations as monk, nun, ascetic or ashramite during which a worldly life was considered antithetical to inner development or progress towards GOD continue to influence you. You may be hampered in your material progress because of devoting yourself entirely to the spiritual life, or a persistent desire to retreat from the world and leave all superficial distractions behind, stem from this also.  Aim to integrate the inner or spiritual life with your ordinary existence, as this is one of your karmic lessons.
